Weekly Yoga Classes with JJ

The following classes are taught by JJ Gormley at the Total Wellness Center, 331 N Madison Rd, Orange, VA 22960

Classes run in sessions (fall, winter, spring, summer). Each session is generally 8, 10 or 12-weeks in length. Cost is $10/class when you sign up for the entire session (8-weeks is $80, 10-weeks is $100, and 12-weeks is $120), or $13 for drop-in. Drop-ins are not permitted after the third week of the session except in the Chair Yoga class on Tuesdays. Between sessions JJ runs a free class (or more) for make-ups of missed classes, or simply to enjoy an extra class.

Next session: Winter Session 10-weeks for $100. Winter Session begins January 21st and runs through March 20th, 2019.

Free Yoga Classes: January 14th, 15th and 16th at the same days and times of the classes listed below.

Level 1

Mondays 5:30 - 6:30 pm

In this class, JJ guides students with alignment cues for better posture, core strength, and flexibility that builds from week-to-week over the course of the session.  Each week brings a new focus, and handouts are included.

All classes are taught with the teaching methods of Surya Chandra Healing Yoga School as directed by JJ Gormley. Often students in SCHYS’s programs come and observe JJ to learn the methodology of SCHYS.

Chair Yoga

Tuesdays 3:30 - 4:15 pm

In this class, JJ guides students with alignment cues for better posture, core strength, and flexibility all while sitting in a chair.  Sometimes students comment on how excited they are to get such deep stretches while sitting. Occasionally we get up and out of the chair and do yoga poses to the chair, or use the chair to help balance.

Level 2

Wednesdays 5:30 - 6:30 pm

In this class, JJ guides students with alignment cues for better posture, core strength, and flexibility that builds from week-to-week over the course of the session.  Each week brings a new focus, and handouts are included. Prerequisite: Completion of Level 1 or JJ’s permission.

All of JJ’s classes are breath-focused meaning there is a movement for the inhale part of the breath and a movement for the exhale part of the breath. Students will be reminded of the breath cues throughout and encouraged to begin to move their body in sync with the breath. When we are able to do this, great calm and mindfulness comes making your yoga movements like a meditation in motion.
